"December Mary"December 2014
I started painting Mary's around 2012 or so. (I gave my first one to my best friend.) I am still painting them because I love to paint her and I feel differently when I am. It's about her womanly strength. Her very sacred place in religious history. 16x20 Acrylics. Modeling paste. Water-soluble crayon. Pencil. "Through thick and thin"August 2015
This is about friendship. Not any friendship, those that stick. Those that bring on the huge lessons; the messy learning you don't think you can navigate, but you do. Together. My style has started to change this summer. I like where it's headed. 6x12 Acrylics. Water-soluble crayon. Pencil. Modeling paste. "Clear"October 2015
Sometimes, things become more clear. Or, you get an "all clear". Either way, it's an invitation to take a new step. Begin again. And aren't we blessed to have that option when we do. 20X20 Acrylics. Modeling paste. Pencil. Water-soluble crayon. And time. This one took some time. (Some do.) |
"Ohio"December 2014/January 2015
My Mom was born and raised in Ohio. That's her. Around age 5 (she was born in 1924). I've always loved the photo of her and knew I would use it in my art one day. I loved using the fabric. 10X10 Acrylics. Fabric. Embroidery. Water-soluble crayons. Modeling paste. "Flowers for Karly"August 2015
I wasn't certain where this one was headed. It ended up being a wonderful surprise; mostly in subject matter, and how it kept evolving. Kind of like my daughter. Thus the name of it. 16X20 Acrylics. Water-soluble crayon. Pencil. Modeling paste. "Snow Angel"December 2015
'Twas the season. She was the first of a pair. She ended up being given to a friend of a friend who was starting chemo. I loved that. Don't we all need a little watching over sometimes? 6X6 Acrylics. Pencil. Modeling paste. "LILLY"
July 2016
I honestly didn't think I would ever do a pet portrait. I guess it took a special fuzzy soul to convince me it was time. (And it was fun!) This was for a best friend's (more like a sister) birthday gift. 6x6 Acrylics. Pencil. Modeling paste. Water soluble crayons. |
"Poppies"Summer 2013
This was a new subject matter for me, and a new size canvas, so it was really about exploration. I also think it was one of the first times I used Modeling paste. 24X30 Acrylics. Water-soluble Crayons. "Purple"August 2015
I bought these flowers at a local florist. Took a pic. Perfect subject matter. 8X16 Acrylics. Water-soluble crayons. Pencil. Even some oil pastels. "Red"December 2015
Second of the pair. This one is now with a friend who was convinced that was her guardian angel looking back at her telling her something...6X6 Acrylics. Pencil. Modeling paste. "SISTERS"
February 2017 A commission piece for a friend (to give as a gift). Those can be tough, and this took a while, but, it found it's way. 8X8 Acrylics. Pencil. Modeling paste. iphone photo. |
"Storm, then grace"2012 and then some.
This was one of the first paintings I used the dripping technique. I was hooked when I saw/felt how it could add emotion. A lot of my early work, and work to come, involves women. Having been through some rough times, coming out on the other side (like many woman, many people), this image was born. 16x20 Acrylics. Water-soluble crayon. Modeling paste. "Headin' Out"August 2015
Sometimes, you gotta grab that Friend and run. That is all I wanna say about that. 10X10 Acrylics. Water-soluble crayon. Pencil Modeling paste. "Jax"December 2015/Jan. 2016
A best friend loved the angels. She loved how their wings were tattered and "had some miles on them", or that they "weren't perfect". Exactly. So, she asked for her own for her Christmas/Birthday present. Consider it Done. 6X6 Acrylics. Pencil. Modeling paste. |
"GARDEN"
August 2016 This statue is in the garden of someone very special to me. I wanted this to be Just Right. I worried. It's now in his living room and seems at home. 18X24 Lots of texture with modeling paste. Acrylics. Graphite pencil. |
